New Kemper Scholar Selection Process Campus Coordinator Training Fall 2017

New Kemper Scholar Timeline [Aug- Dec] Campus Coordinators Promote Program [Jan 31] Students submit final application [Feb] Campus Coordinator screens applications [Feb - March] Campus Selection Committee reviews applications Campus Selection Committees select finalists [Mar - April] Foundation staff interview finalists on campus [May] Foundation staff select new Kemper Scholars [June] Finalize enrollment for new scholars

Step 1: Students Submit Applications Send reminders to students re: January 31 deadline. Establish your list of reviewers who will be participating and using WizeHive to ensure they have appropriate login info and access. Recommendations are optional. Whether your institution chooses to use this in the application process is up to your Campus Coordinator and staff. NOTE: a mandatory request for name and contact info for 2 references (professional, personal or academic) at the end of the application.

Step 2: Campus Coordinator Screens Applications Screening begins after January 31 (when applications are due). Three items are verified – NO EXCEPTIONS are allowed First year academic standing no more than 20% of credits toward major completed by Jan 31 plans to graduate in no less than 4 years GPA 3.25 or above on 4.00 scale Valid Social Security Number or will be verified in time for finalist interviews Any item marked as “No” in WizeHive makes the student ineligible automatic email sent out, moved out of the Submissions folder.

Step 3: Campus Team Reviews Applications Review begins after initial screening is completed by the Campus Coordinator. Email your reviewers with their login credentials to access the review portal and let them know to begin reviewing (Jenn will provide before Jan 31). Use of the scoring rubric is not required but highlights qualities that make a successful Kemper Scholar with relative weights. Each reviewer will make their notes in the review portal. Foundation staff will provide the campus coordinator with a weekly report each Friday in February showing all reviews completed for all eligible applicants from the school.

Step 4: Campus Coordinator Post Review Steps Login to WizeHive to upload class/grade reports for finalists. This is the final step to selecting your final pool of candidates, as WizeHive will move these students to the Finalist folder for Foundation staff to view as soon as grades have been uploaded. Student emails are listed on weekly Campus Review summaries. Send personal emails to each student NOT selected as a finalist. Email all finalists explaining next steps in selection process, including scheduling of interviews with Foundation staff.
