Impacts of Globalisation Changes in employment in the developed countries

Developed countries have seen many changes due to the impact of a global economy. The shift in manufacturing to the newly industrialising countries has meant huge job losses, closures and a fall into dereliction of many factories. Factories have closed because Things can be made more cheaply elsewhere Increased automation in factories It is not just cities that have suffered but also rural areas because: Farming has become more mechanised Increasing reliance on imported food Decline of the fishing industry Decline of quarrying and mining

Map B Map A Map A shows the locations of traditional industries in the UK before 1980. They were located close to sources of power, labour and raw materials such as coal. Map B shows the concentrations of the new industries that have developed in the UK. These industries can be described as footloose industries.
