Presentation transcript:

Your Task Analysis It is helpful to produce a plan of action (Task Analysis) outlining all the areas you consider important in examining and evaluating the needs of your project. For example: Who will use your product? Remember that this will not only be the end user, but may also be someone who buys the product for another person, or someone who has to distribute it.

How will the product be used? In what environment? Does it need to be stored in a special way? Will it need any special features to ensure it performance? How will it be disposed of – is it reusable or recyclable? Are there any size limitations to the product? What anthropometric data might you need to make the product fit for comfortable use? How much might your target market be prepared to pay for the product? Make a list of the methods you could use to collect this information quickly and effectively.

Here are some suggestions: Interview your target market; Collect information from catalogues, maps, leaflets, the internet, TV; Obtain the information directly by taking measurements from existing products (disassembling an existing product) etc; Visit retail outlets and exhibitions; Use questionnaires and surveys; Take photos or use digital imagery; Use the reference library in the textile room; Use the ‘student read data base’ Look up current product trends; Fashion forecast trends; Directional shopping trips, what would a designer do?
