Presentation transcript:

“Trying to improve something when you don’t have a means of measurement and performance standards is like setting out on a cross-county trip in a car without a fuel gauge. You can make calculated guesses and assumptions based on experience and observations, but without hard data, conclusions are based on insufficient evidence.” Six Sigma

In its simplest form, a KPI is a type of performance measurement that helps you understand how your organization or department is performing. A good KPI should act as a compass, helping you and your team understand whether you’re taking the right path toward your strategic goals.

by monitoring visual graphics GOAL Define What is Important Measure with metrics Manage by monitoring visual graphics Improve based on data

What are Key Performance Indicators? Key – Focuses on the most important part of the school foodservice business Performance –Sets Benchmarks to determine if we are successful or not successful at running our business Indicator – Measures and monitor the Key Areas to ensure our performance is on track

DEFINE Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-bound

Overview of KPI’s Revenue KPI’s Expense KPI’s Other KPI’s Breakfast Participation Lunch Participation A La Carte Participation Total Revenue Expense KPI’s Food Cost as a % of Revenue Labor Cost as a % of Revenue Supply Cost as a % of Revenue Other KPI’s MPLH Standard Cash Variances Employee Attendance Rate Inventory Turnover Rate Health Department Scores

Measure Measures are quantifiable and may not be meaningful in and of themselves. But measures represent building blocks for the metrics required to make business decisions. Metrics consist of one or more measures combined with a mathematical calculation. Only use Metrics when the data is available. For example, total number of free applications divided by Total number of free students served at lunch = % of free students participating in lunch

Manage Dashboards are a visual display of the most important information needed to achieve one or more objectives; consolidated and arranged on a single screen so information can be monitored at a glance
