دائرة الإحصاءات العامة Introduction:- The MedStat project is one of the pioneering projects that has contributed to the partnership agreements between the EU and Mediterranean countries, including Jordan through helping to improve the quality of services and of statistical data .The motive is to meet the needs of economic and social information, making it easier to provide high-quality and timely data for planners and decision makers The program has covered nine statistical sectors, including the transport sector. The objective is to improve the performance of statistical systems in partner countries. دائرة الإحصاءات العامة The Jordanian Department of Statistics (DoS) hopes that this program continues over a long period because of its significant impact in the development of statistical techniques and its contribution to provide the statistical institutions with the necessary statistical expertise and skills for improving the statistical work. The Department of Statistics (DoS) hopes that the transport statistics program is improved through the inclusion of training courses, specialized workshops, technical assistance and study visits to be benefitted from the experiences of developed countries in the field of transport statistics in the third phase of the MedStadt project. 5 December 2018 دائرة الإحصاءات العامة

دائرة الإحصاءات العامة Assessment of the MedStat Program: - 1 - This Program has allowed the participating countries (including Jordan) to identify the data producers in various countries. It has resulted in creating of new knowledge in addition to integrated and unique data collection mechanisms. 2 - It has allowed identifying new indicators on the transport sector. Furthermore, it has also helped in identifying its calculation mechanism, new methods of classification and sorting through a workshop on technical and environmental performance indicators. Accordingly, new indicators were innovated and have assisted in the development of the transport – related statistics. 5 December 2018 دائرة الإحصاءات العامة

دائرة الإحصاءات العامة 3 - The MedStat has provided large coverage of the Jordanian transport statistics and its compatibility with the international methodologies. 4 - This program has introduced national mechanisms for data exchange between the national institutions. It has made this process more serious and committed to deadlines. 5 - The MedStat has created statistical awareness among officials of the need to develop transport statistics. دائرة الإحصاءات العامة 6- The Program has contributed to the development of the skills of the producers of the data transport statistics through workshops and training courses. The MedStat has organized, supervised and provided these training courses with prominent experts. 7 - The MedStat has helped statisticians from the participating countries to pay study visits to view the experiences of the visited countries and to benefit from these experiences. دائرة الإحصاءات العامة 8- The Program has allowed Jordan to unify the concepts and terms used in the transport sector, therefore international comparisons became possible. 9- The Program has allowed the participating countries to adopt an appropriate mean for the transfer and exchange of data. 10 - The MedStat has contributed in providing technical assistance to all participating countries through the expert missions in this field for improving the quality and quantity of data. 5 December 2018 دائرة الإحصاءات العامة

دائرة الإحصاءات العامة 11-This program has adopted a policy of activating the administrative sources directors to facilitate communication and data acquisition. 12- The MedStat has adopted computerization of the administrative sources, which in turn made it easier to obtain data from these sources. 13- The Program has contributed to the creation of a comprehensive database of all transport sectors. 5 December 2018 دائرة الإحصاءات العامة

دائرة الإحصاءات العامة 14- The MedStat has contributed to consolidate the bonds of trust between the providers of data (various administrative sources) and the Department of Statistics (DoS), which facilitated the process of data acquisition. 15-The Program has contributed in the preparation of proposals and recommendations for the development of the statistical system of the participating countries. 5 December 2018 دائرة الإحصاءات العامة

دائرة الإحصاءات العامة 16- The Program has assisted in identifying the points of strength and weakness of the statistical systems and in providing the appropriate solutions. 17 - A data bank for the transport sector has been established by the Ministry of Transport with the aim of developing the transport sector in Jordan.
