External Media This section includes briefs on contact with external media outlets and the services offered by the Office of Marketing and Communication that can gather more awareness around your special events & your organization’s activities

External News Media & Events Please let Student Centers Administration and the Office of Marketing and Communication know when: Your special event will be covered by external news media Your special event will be filmed, recorded or broadcast live (including streaming over the internet) Special licensing may need to be put into place for these instances. See Student Centers Administration or the Office of Marketing and Communication for further assistance

Communication with the External Media / Press Contact the Office of Marketing and Communication when considering or dealing with contact with the media outside of the University While a spokesperson may be designated to speak on behalf of your organization, official messages from the University shall be determined by the Office of the President in consultation with the Office of Marketing and Communication "No comment" says a lot. Avoid speaking to the media about an incident unless statements are vetted by the Office of Marketing and Communication Responses to incidents are better handled “above” you. Defer to your advisor or supervisor regarding official statements on an incident

Filming And Photography The University reviews and approves a variety of location shoots, film productions and photo shoots on campus for commercial and non-commercial purposes. In most instances (unless the University provides specific consent), the use of the University of Hartford’s names, logos, etc. is not permitted. Typically, the University does not allow filming & photography for commercial purposes, however, all requests must be reviewed (and give it a month as opposed to 2 weeks) by Student Centers Administration, the Office of Marketing & Communications and the University’s general counsel for final determination on a case by case basis
