Eastern ARC Eastern Academic Research Consortium across Kent, UEA, Essex Started since 2013../2014-15, will continue for five years as a first stage Build research synergies across three institutions to react to a larger range of research funding Build stronger PG training network/sharing of expertise Social sciences focus on Quantitative Social Science However, focused on various thematic areas – gender, aging, conflict analysis, experimental methods
Changing gender roles in work and family Wide range of people from across three institutions working in this area Very interdisciplinary – sociology, economics, psychology, law, politics etc.. Both qualitative and quantitative methods Looking across the world – UK, Europe, outside EU Key themes – women/mother/parent’s employment patterns, and large trends in employment, women and leadership, Parenting/parenting time and separation, division of household tasks/childcare
Today Employment patterns and parenthood 1st session – focus mostly on women/mother’s employment patterns 2nd session – larger trends in changes in employment and income patterns, work-family conflict, parenting and separation Dinner!
Tomorrow 1st session – women in leadership 2nd session – parenting, parenting time and separation 3rd session – division of household work Brain storming session New horizons in gender role research? Networking!(also during coffee/lunch/dinner) Result in real proposals for future collaboration Tell us if you have any ideas of break out groups
