Thesis Statements! Peer Critiquing

A Thesis Should Present An Argument… An argument is more than a descriptive statement; it must offer an explanation about causation. An argument answers a why question rather than simply a what question.

Examples To write that "The American Revolutionary War began in April 1775 at Lexington" is an accurate descriptive statement but it is not much of an argument. More pointed and promising is the following: "Undisciplined American militiamen commenced the American Revolutionary War by firing at British soldiers at Lexington in April of 1775." Of course, you would have to present persuasive evidence that American militiamen had fired first.
