First Line of Defense: Skin: keeps pathogens from entering Mucus, cilia, sneezing, coughing: Saliva
Second Line of Defense: Inflammatory Response: fluid & WBC’s attack pathogens in the area of infection (i.e. cut – swollen, red) Phagocytes: WBC’s that engulf & destroy pathogens
Third Line of Defense: targets specific pathogens B-cells (WBC): produce antibodies that destroy pathogen T-cells (WBC): identify pathogens & distinguish one kind from another Antibodies – destroys Specific antigens
