Essential Question What are current issues regarding America’s immigration policy?
Vocabulary Immigrant: a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country. Refugee: a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. Persecute: being treated badly, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs. Asylum: the protection granted by a nation to someone who has left their country as a political refugee. Detain: keep someone in official custody for questioning. Prosecute: arrest and put on trial.
Today’s Task Chose one immigration article and read it. Reread the article a second time. As you read through the article, look for all the words and phrases that you think are poetic/important. Each time you do, write them down on slips of paper provided for you.
Next: Create a FOUND POEM Play and experiment with your slips of paper. Move them around your desk to see what interesting, poetic arrangements you can make. You may need to add some connecting words such as: the, and, in, an, a. When your poem sounds right to you, write it on a sheet of paper. Give your poem a title.
Closure All your papers in Field notes and in the middle of the table. Immigration packets and scrap paper NEXT TO Field Notes. Wait for further directions.
