Alcohol neurolysis of tibial nerve motor branches to the gastrocnemius muscle to treat ankle spasticity in patients with hemiplegic stroke  Sung Ho Jang, MD, Sang Ho Ahn, MD, Sung Min Park, MD, Seong Ho Kim, MD, Kang Hee Lee, MD, Zee Ihn Lee, MD  Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation  Volume 85, Issue 3, Pages 506-508 (March 2004) DOI: 10.1016/S0003-9993(03)00468-4

Fig 1 (A) Anatomic location of the motor branches of the tibial nerve to the gastrocnemius muscle. The motor branches originate from the trunk of the tibial nerve obliquely at a mean of 3.3cm proximal to the horizontal line to the upper margin of the fibular head. (B) A horizontal line was drawn to the reference of the upper margin of the fibular head, and the vertical line indicates the main trunk of the tibial nerve in the popliteal region. The X-marked points, which have the lowest threshold, were localized using a neuromuscular stimulator and indicate the medial and lateral motor branches of the tibial nerve to the gastrocnemius muscle. Abbreviations: LG, lateral gastrocnemius muscle; MG, medial gastrocnemius muscle. Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2004 85, 506-508DOI: (10.1016/S0003-9993(03)00468-4)
