Distinguished Professor Rank Created by SUNY Board of Trustees in 1963 First faculty member promoted to that rank in 1964 Today, there are more than 1000 DA members, approximately 500 Emeriti The rank carries responsibility for continuing service to the University
Distinguished Academy Created by a resolution of the SUNY Board of Trustees in 2012 as a means of increasing the opportunity for scholarship, service and research among Academy members. Distinguished Professor Distinguished Teaching Professor Distinguished Service Professor Distinguished Librarian
Distinguished Academy Governance “The Distinguished Academy, which will be governed by the Chancellor and a board representing all those with a Distinguished rank, will strive to ensure all such faculty carry, over and above their campus responsibility, a responsibility to the State University as a whole.”
SUNY Interest in DA Progress In the 2016-2017 academic year, a Provost Fellow was made available to help organize the Academy and increase its service. System staff was made available to build a membership database DA Bylaws were approved and working committees were formed.
UFS/DA Opportunities Mentoring Committee Three DA Committees have been established. The DA would welcome UFS teamwork with these efforts: Presentation Committee Mentoring Committee Visiting DA Scholars Committee
