Course Outline & Learning Outcomes Section A: Intro to Mass Media Studies Section B: Representation and the Media Section C: Film By the end of this course you will: Have knowledge about the emergence of the Mass Media and their impact upon social and cultural life Understand how to read and interpret the visual and written images and texts used by the media have the ability to evaluate and criticize new ideas

Assessment Class record 50% Exam Mark 50% Three class tests Written on a TUESDAY 17h00 – 18h30 in WOB Participation Mark 10% must attend tutorials and submit all assigned worksheets on time at tutorials Exam Mark 50% Three-hour exam with compulsory questions on all material taught
DP Requirements General Attendance Submission of worksheets Class Mark Attendance below 80% can withdraw DP Attendance below 60% automatic loss of DP, regardless of the reasons Submission of worksheets Failure to submit minimum of 60% of worksheets timeously = automatic loss of DP Class Mark Must achieve minimum of 40% class mark to write exam
