Presentation transcript:

What is perspective in literature? Perspective is particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.

This photograph could be from the perspective of an ant.

This photograph of the same scene can be from the perspective of a bird.

Sometimes perspective can be confusing….

And sometimes perspective can interfere with what we see.

Your assignment: Avi writes this novel from the perspective of a 13 year-old peasant boy who lives during the middle ages. Choose a scene from the book and rewrite it through the perspective and point of view of the other character(see the next slide for scene choices). Example: Poor Asta’s son. His mother was the only thing in the world he could call his own. I had no choice but to assist him in covering her in a shroud and carry her through the dismal dripping downpour. I am the village priest, and no others would lend a helping hand. I do not understand the reasons the other villagers ignored her and made fun of Asta. I will try to comfort him the best way I know how(to be continued)….

Scenes to rewrite: Asta’s son and John Aycliffe in the woods witnessing the meeting from John Aycliffe’s perspective Asta’s son with Peregrine and Cerdic as he readies to leave Stromford from Peregrine’s or Cerdic’s perspective Asta’s son and Bear’s first meeting in the abandoned village from Bear’s perspective

Requirements: Be sure to use an effective amount of dialogue(not too much) Be sure to use and highlight three different types of figurative language. Be sure to use and highlight three different vocabulary words we have learned from reading this novel. Your scene should be approximately one half to one full page single- spaced, twelve font. Open a word document and begin typing your story. Be sure to save to your documents periodically. At 9:30 you and your table will complete a museum walk and use sticky notes to make comments on your classmate’s work.
