Sports Fitness Principles of Exercising Session 6 Objectives Discuss, define and implement the principles of exercise The student will learn how using the principles of exercise synergistically can increase their level of fitness, thus increase sports performance. SOLs: 11/12.1, 11/12.2, 11/12.3, 11/12.4, 11/12.5

Progression Gradual increase intensity, frequency, and/or duration of exercise over a period of time Weeks, months

Specificity Specific exercise performed to improve a particular component of fitness Ex: cardio

Overload Exercise that is conducted at a level of intensity and /or duration which results in achieving a training effect

Frequency or Regularity Exercise conducted at regular intervals each week, continuing throughout the year… Or time spent to improve fitness
