Academics Homework 5% Formative Assessments 40% Examination 25% AGS policy for grade distribution allows for students to demonstrate their knowledge in various ways. We understand that every child cannot excel at examinations or tests. For that reason, we focus on ongoing assessments throughout the term. These include formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments are tasks that support the learning during the learning process. Summative assessments evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit. These include but are not limited to: - Observations - Presentations - End of chapter checks - Group Work - Independent Study - Questioning Projects - Research study - Peer/Self Assessments Participation - Discussions - Graphic Organizers Diagnostics - Quizzes - Entry/Exit slips Homework 5% Formative Assessments 40% Examination 25% Summative Assessments 25% Participation 5%

Behaviour and Counselling Led by school counsellors, Ms. Rowa and Mr. Abdelhalem We need your support with behaviour management! Consequences for bad behaviour Phone calls to parents Missing playtime or breaks Detentions Removal from classroom Suspensions Consequences for good behaviour Student led activities Field trips

Special Education Needs Led by Ms. Lydia and Ms. Bassirat All Students should have access to the curriculum. To facilitate this after an initial assessment we will be supporting Students in class ‘Every teacher is a Teacher of Children with Special Needs and Disabilities’ therefore the class teacher is responsible for appropriate support along with the Learning Support Department. SEN students will be able to qualify (depending on their need) for extra support during end of term and end of year exams. This could include extra time, a reader, breaks…. We can recommend external agencies to support your child

KG1 & KG2 KG this year: We are currently in the process of adapting the Teaching and Learning to the UK EYFS Curriculum.   The emphasis is on learning through play. The purpose of KG1 is to get children to socialise and to be independent. KG2 is the foundation for basic academic learning, but it should always be fun!

Key Stage 1 KS1 this year: KS1 - we are using the UK National curriculum 2014 for English, Maths and Science.  There is an emphasis on Phonics- we use Jolly phonics in this school- to get children reading.  There are no exams in Year 1 for these subjects- just teacher assessments.  In Year 2 children do KS1 SATs in English and Maths, based on what they have learned in class.

Key Stage Two KS2 this year: The Heads have put together a vigorous infrastructure to support teachers in the planning for the New Curriculum. The New Curriculum demands that schools create their own programs from the guidelines prescribed, and must make these available online to parents. Our advisors have proposed termly plans taking into consideration suggested texts from English programs of study, weaving in other texts types and genres from across the curriculum. We have also been advised to pay particular attention to ensuring pupils’ progress across the school year. The suggested outcomes focus on genres and texts that should be age appropriate and delivered in a suitable context for our students. Hence students will not only be taught from a prescribed text. This will help students gain an understanding of what is been taught to improve their communicative and grammatical skills. This New Curriculum involves creativity, independence, empowerment, innovation and student involvement in their knowledge and understanding of the environment.

Key Stage Three KS3 this year: Smooth transition between KS2 and KS3 with similar policies in reading and implementing transition day at the end of year 6 Working towards our GCSE The new national curriculum’s standards emphasize cross-curricular studies Less emphasis is placed on textbooks and more on student-led activities and project- based learning This year, behaviour management is one of our largest targets for this key stage. We need to ensure that student behaviour does not negatively affect their learning.
