Lab: Properties of Legos After completing the lab, write your group’s averages on the board

Discussion What does the data say? Certain properties of matter will not change, no matter the amount of the substance. This is called an intensive property. Can you think of other things that would not change?

What properties did change during the lab? These things are considered extensive properties because they depend upon the amount of a substance. Remember extra matters! What other things might be extensive?

Another category of properties. . . Physical Chemical Characteristic that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the substance A substance's ability to undergo changes that transform it into different substances

What about changes? You rip a piece of paper in half You light a match You boil water to make macaroni and cheese You mix alka seltzer and water and you observe fizzing and it feels cold You light a piece of magnesium on fire and it emits a bright light

How would we define these changes? Physical Chemical
