A Brief History SIL was started by, and continues to be run by, a voluntary board of Trustees / Directors, the majority of whom are disabled people Formed in 1996, as Herefordshire Centre of Independent Living 1997 awarded contract to provide Direct Payment Support Services in Herefordshire (Employment Law, Bookkeeping, Payroll) Independent Living @ Home (IL@H) Herefordshire set up in 1998 Hereford City Shopmobility service from 2012 to March 2018 WISH from 2015 to March 2018

SIL Vision To enable people affected by disabilities to exercise choice and control, to live independent lives, and to actively participate in society.

SIL Mission Statement The provider of choice for individual care and support, empowering people to lead an independent life.

SIL Guiding Principles - PRIDES Partnership – working with individuals, groups and organisations to share knowledge and improve outcomes for disabled people. Respect – for all Innovation – adapting efficiently and effectively to change and embracing new technology Diversity – to be accepting of all people, both within and outside SIL Equality – for all Strength-based – Maximising ability and not being constrained by disability

What we do…. Independent Living at Home Support for people with complex needs. Small teams of core staff supported by Team Leaders and two tier 24 hour on-call system. Currently providing approximately 2000 hours per week to 29 disabled people via 80+ support staff
