Presentation transcript:

Good morning everyone. How are you? I’m also fine…

This semester (for some reason) is much busier than usual… Please bear with me… The website The emails The “present” I owe you… Please bear with me = 이해해 주십시오 …I hope I spelled that right…my Korean level is not that high..

Question! What does “taboo” mean? RUDE/OK?

Are these “Taboo” in Korea? Eating an ice cream on the street? Speaking “informally” to your grandfather? Asking to remove the salt from a dish? Using one finger to get a person’s attention? Talking about favorite Soju flavor? Talking about a commonly disliked vegetable? Talking about sexual activities? Telling someone to “go eat a caramel taffy”? (엿) Throwing caramel taffy at someone? (I saw this done to the Korean Soccer Team, a few years ago…)

What are some Taboo actions/statements question in the USA? Age, salary, weight, middle finger, sticking out tongue (sometimes),

Situation and question Good Reaction Bad Reaction Weight: Have you lost weight? You’re looking fantastic these days! Thought: Aw, that is so nice! Thought: Are you calling me fat? Asking if someone has sadness: Are you not feeling well? Are you alright? How are you doing? You look so tired. Thought: That’s kind to ask! Thought: Why? Do I look bad? Pregnancy: When is your baby due? Anything new going on? Thought: Yup! Lots! Can’t wait to talk about it! Thought: I’M NOT PREGNANT! WHAT THE F---? Nationality: What part of America are you from? Where are you from, originally? Where from Africa are you from? Could you tell me about where you’re from? 2,3 1,3 Thought: Cool. Thought: I hate it when people assume my nationality. Dating life: Doing anything special, these days? Are you still single? Thought: I hate you for asking. Age: If you don’t mind my asking, how old are you? Hey, how old are you? Thought: Not a fan of this question, but at least it’s being asked politely. Thought: What are you asking for? You’re not a doctor! Salary status: I really wish I had the new iPhone. I spent SO MUCH money on my car! Thought: I agree. Thought: Snob. Fashion: I prefer a different style myself, but you look great in it. I wouldn’t be caught dead in that. Thought: OK. We all have different opinions. Thought: F--- you!

Do you have last week’s reading activities? The topic’s were: Folk Heroes, Happiness and Hypnosis. Please write the topic on the paper, along with one of these three statements: Too Easy, Feasible, Too difficult Folk Heroes: Too Easy Happiness: Too Easy Hypnosis: Feasible Pass the paper to me. I will use this to determine future reading levels. Folk Heroes: Too Easy Happiness: Feasible Hypnosis: Too difficult I have a funny Avengers Thanos joke site ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Without giving any spoilers, I will tell you that “Thanos” is a villian in the MCU, with a goal of killing 50 percent of the universe. After Avengers 3: Infinity War came out, this “joke website” popped up.
