Me, me, me 05 December 2018 Just like me !

Your job is to find out what it means to be an average year 7 student in El Alsson. Use your new detective skills to help you.

Show your teacher what you are doing at each stage before you move on. Your final project is due in on Sunday 29th January You may share data The contents of your report must be: Your plan Analysis of data (graphs, charts and calculations) Conclusion and comments on how to extend the investigation Appendix containing Questionnaire Data collection sheets

copy this writing frame into Word to help you, Make your plan copy this writing frame into Word to help you, don’t forget to fill in the blanks I am going to investigate what an average year 7 pupil at El Alsson School is like. The areas I am going to investigate are: _______________________. I will represent this data on a ___________ Where suitable I will also calculate the range and compare all 3 averages, selecting the most appropriate one for the data. To collect my data I will send a _______ to _____ students chosen at random from all 3 tutor groups and ask an equal number of _____ and _____ from each tutor group. As I study year 7 I will also consider if there is a difference between the average year 7 girl and year 7 boy.

Data analysis You must collect data so you can draw i) a dual bar chart ii) a compound bar chart iii) a pie chart iv) a scatter graph v) a stem and leaf diagram Possible choices of data are: What an average year 7 looks like. Eye colour, hair colour, height, arm-span, foot size, shoe size 2. What does an average year 7 do all day? Eat, sleep, read, school, travel, club . . . . . . . ? How does a year 7 use their mobile? Type of phone, call plan, texts per day, calls What does an average year 7 like? music, films, food, (crisps)

Data Analysis Some phrases you might use when analysing your charts are: My ___________chart shows ___________________________ The modal group is __________ The largest proportion of my pie chart is_________, this means________ There is ____________ correlation on my scatter graph, this means ___________ The mean shoe size is ________, I chose to use this average because_______________

What conclusion have you come to? (see next slide) Are you average ? What are the differences between boys and girls? How could you extend this investigation? Present your results typed up on A4 paper, charts are to be hand drawn

Conclusion From my analysis of the data I can see that an average year 7 has blonde hair and blue eyes. They are 100cm tall and wear size 9 shoes, the average foot length is 20cm. They spend their day sleeping for 6.3 hours, eating for 2.2 hours and at school for 8 hours. The greatest proportion of their day is spent at school. It takes and average year 7 55 minutes to travel to and from school. . . . . . . . . . Add the rest of your findings here. Compared to an average year 7 I am . . . . . . There is some/very little/ no difference between boys and girls. They both . . . . . . . . To extend my investigation I could . .. . . . . . . . . . .
