Colonization Shifts!

What is colonization?

Where was it happening? From 1500-1850?

After the Revolutions Who is Independent? United States ( 1783) Mexico( 1821) Most of South America ( 1811-1830)

Nationalism A movement in which a group requests to be recognized as a nation, and capable of self government. Nationalism is happening in many of the colonies.

Fun Fact Canada only becomes a nation in 1867. We belonged to whom before?

Is Slavery Still Around? By 1850 colonization in North and South America was ending. In North America human rights activists were putting a stop to slavery one colony at a time.

What is Europe to do? Europe still wants cheap goods and resources…… Where do they look to colonize?

Reasons to Renew Colonization Economic: Cheap goods Social : Get rid of excess population by forcing them to move to Africa or Asia. Political: Increase human influence on the world.

Imperialism When a state tries to extend its rule over other countries. Europe was doing this to Africa & Asia.

Resistance African colonies were upset at the Europeans influence. Europeans were discriminating against the African & Asian peoples. The colonies lead protests and civil wars against the Europeans.
