S1 Science Acids and Bases
Acidic, basic and neutral salts. Salts Salts are formed when acids react with bases. acid + base → salt + water When strong acids react with strong bases.
Exploring Science 7© Pearson Education Limited The pH scale indicates Ahow hot something is. Bhow acid or alkaline something is. Chow long something.
Title: Neutralisation
PH Scale Standard: 5d-students know how to use the pH scale to characterize acid and base solutions.
ACIDS AND BASES. Acids  Acidic solutions contain water and hydrogen ions (H+)
Indicators 1.Indicators are dyes which change colour when acidic or alkaline solutions are added to them. 2.Some common indicators are litmus, methyl orange,
Learning Outcomes Having taken part in practical activities to compare the properties of acids and alkalis, I have demonstrated ways of measuring and adjusting.

7E ACIDS AND ALKALIS. The pH scale What is the pH scale? What pH does an acid have? What pH does an alkali have? What is the neutral pH.
Titrations L.O: To understand how to set up a titration to find the concentration of an unknown acid / alkali.
Why are solutions acidic or alkaline? How do we measure acids?
L4: pH scale Learning Objectives: 1.Use the pH scale to describe substances as weak or strong acids or alkalis. 2.Describe how universal indicator is used.

5 a day revision Acids and alkalis What do these hazard symbols mean? Suggest a safety precaution for working with acids. What do we use indicators for? Give an example. What do these hazard symbols mean? What is the pH of the following: Weak acid Neutral Strong alkali Strong acid What is the colour of each indicator when a neutral substance is added? Indicator B is currently green in colour. What colour changes would it go through if you gradually added more and more hydrochloric acid? If you add all the indicators together how many different colours would you get between pH 1 and 14? @aegilopoides
