CRCT Requirements: The state of Georgia requires that students take the CRCT in the following areas: Reading, Language Arts and Math. All students in grades 3 – 5 must also take the CRCT in Science and Social Studies.

What happens if my child doesn’t pass the CRCT? 3rd Grade: State law says that if a student does NOT pass the Reading CRCT in 3rd grade, it is mandatory that he/she attend summer school and then retake the test. 5th Grade: If a student does NOT pass the Reading and/or Math CRCT in 5th grade, he/she must attend summer school and retake the test in the area(s) that they did not pass.

What if my child fails the CRCT Retest in grades 3 and 5? The student will be retained and the parents will be notified. The parent has the right to appeal the decision to retain the student. A placement committee will meet to look at their overall academic achievement. The decision to retain, place or promote the child to the next grade must be an unanimous decision. The decision of the placement committee is final!

Test Taking Tips for Elementary Students: *Relax. Just do the best you can. *Your first choice is usually correct. Don’t change an answer unless you have a good reason to do so. *Read the question and all answer choices carefully before choosing an answer. *Rule out answers that don’t make sense. *Be aware of key words such as “all”, “now”, “always”, “never”, “only”, and “exactly”.

Test Taking Tips Continued: *Watch for negative words like “not”, “no”, and “never”. *Words that are CAPITALIZED, underlined, or bold are important words. *Look for information in some of the questions. This information may help you answer other questions. *Make sure you have an answer marked for EVERY question.

How to help you prepare for testing: *Make sure you get a good night’s sleep before a test. *Maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid conflicts. *Make sure you have taken any needed medication. *Make sure you have your glasses or hearing aids if needed. *Make sure you are present during testing.

How to help you prepare for testing continued: *Get to school on time. *Be positive every day. *Remember that the test is important and to do your best. *If the test is on a subject you can review, go over it beforehand. *Remember to listen carefully to instructions from the teacher and to read the directions and each question carefully.

How to help you prepare for testing continued: *Use your time wisely. Don’t get stuck on a question. Make the best guess possible and move on. *Answer every question. *Stay focused. *Tomorrow is a new day and remain optimistic.
