SAMPLE QUESTIONS: What is the principle of “double-effect” in regards to abortion? Anytime a woman gets an abortion there is a double-effect—the baby is negatively affected and the woman is also negatively affected. It refers to the fact that when a woman gets an abortion, it not only affects HER, but it also affects the FATHER of the aborted child. It teaches that whether or not you intended to kill a growing baby in the womb, if a baby dies through ANY medical intervention, it is morally wrong. It states that if a medical intervention is done to a pregnant woman (i.e. shooting radiation into the uterus to shrink a cancerous tumor) and it also results in the death of a growing baby, it is not considered the same as a direct abortion.
