Technology Acceptance Model and Teachers Adoption of Laptops from Hacettepe University, Ankara, TURKIYE / MIT LINC 2007 Use of laptops in e-learning applications Computers role in E-learning technologies Enhancing the skills of teachers INTRODUCTION This qualitative study investigates the teachers perceptions of their adoption of laptops as an innovation within the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework and E-learning.

Technology Acceptance Model and Teachers Adoption of Laptops from Hacettepe University, Ankara, TURKIYE / MIT LINC 2007 External Variables Perceived usefulness Attitude Towards Perceived ease of use Behavioral Intention to use Actual System Use Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)

Technology Acceptance Model and Teachers Adoption of Laptops from Hacettepe University, Ankara, TURKIYE / MIT LINC 2007 Theoretical Background and TAM Perceived Usefulness (PU): The degree of performance for a person who uses a particular system. The person believes that his/her performance is enhanced by using the system. Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU): The extent to which an individual believes that using the system will be free of effort TAM is applied in various fields and widely used by the researchers in order to make a better understanding of adoption and use of technology

Technology Acceptance Model and Teachers Adoption of Laptops from Hacettepe University, Ankara, TURKIYE / MIT LINC 2007 PARTICIPANTS 40 Teachers from three different school types; High School Anatolian High School Anatolian Commercial Trade High School 40 teachers from each school answered the researchers questions from semi-structured interview form during face-to-face interviews. For this study, 24 teachers - 8 from each school - were selected among 40 interviewed teachers.

Technology Acceptance Model and Teachers Adoption of Laptops from Hacettepe University, Ankara, TURKIYE / MIT LINC 2007 Intention to Use Do you intend to use your laptop in the future? Do you intend to have a laptop in the future? PU and PEOU are important for teachers. This study shows us that PEOU is prior for teachers in laptop use by its technical and practical characteristics. Teachers look for the technologies which are easy to operate Organizational factors and supportive technical equipments are also important
