VASCO DE GAMA

HIS JOURNEY From Sines, Portugal. Sought to reach India and open a sea route from Europe to India. He used the route pioneered by earlier explorers along the coast of Africa via Tenerife and the Cape Verde Islands. As 1st Count of Vidigueira he received sufficient funding for his voyage. Vasco De Gama’s voyage impacted Europe by finding the Indian spice routes which helped the Portuguese Empire improve it’s trade and economy. Since the Portuguese found the trade route they monopolized Indian spices which the Ottoman Empire utilized. The Ottoman Empire’s economy declined after they lost control of the spice trade and couldn’t tax anyone on the main sea route.
