Cartoon Techniques Exaggeration - Cartoonists will overdo physical characteristics of people or things in order to make a point. Labeling - Objects or people are often labeled by cartoonists to make it clear exactly what they stand for. Symbolism - Objects are used to stand for larger concepts or ideas. Analogy - Cartoonists will 'draw' a comparison between two unlike things. Irony - The difference between the way things are and the way things should be.
Dissociative Disorders Involve changes in consciousness, memory, or self-identity. These disorders affect the ability to maintain a cohesive sense of self or unity of consciousness, which results in bizarre behavior.
Dissociative Disorders There are two types of dissociative disorders Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXuG2zI39yA&safety_mode=tr ue&safe=active&persist_safety_mode=1 Dissociative Amnesia
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) DID is commonly known as multiple personality disorder or split personality. Two or more distinct personalities exist within the same individual. Each personality has distinct traits, manner of speech, and memories https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84TouqfIsiI&t=81s
Dissociative Amnesia People affected experience a loss of memory about themselves or their life experiences. The absence of any physical cause for their amnesia (blow to head,) suggests that the disorder is psychological.
Somatoform Disorders People with these disorders may have physical symptoms or complaints that cannot be explained medically. Two Types Conversion Disorder Hypochondriasis
Conversion Disorder A person suffers a loss of physical function, such as loss of movement in a limb loss of vision loss of feeling in a hand or arm No physical cause for these symptoms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2NbEV8cFzs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szTGXeLk2Jg
Hypochondriasis People who are preoccupied with the idea that there is something terribly wrong with their health. Have physical complaints or symptoms which they believe are signs of serious illness (cancer, heart disease) https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=ilMAK8KvYZs
Causes of Somatoform Disorders Hysterical paralysis (loss of vision) can prevent people from having to confront stressful or conflict-laden situations People with conversion disorders may be reinforced by others for adopting a “sick role”, (Ex. Sympathy/Support)
Comic Strip Activity You and your partner must create a comic strip based on each dissociative and somatoform disorder. (Total 4) Conversion Disorder Hypochondriasis Dissociative Amnesia Dissociative Identity Disorder Each comic strip must display a person experiencing the disorder and the causes & symptoms of each disorder.
