What is Divided Government? When the Executive and Legislative (or at least one house of Congress) is controlled by different political parties Since the 1990s, the federal government has most often been divided As of this recording (March, 2017) there is NOT a divided government President Trump (R) and Congress is controlled by Republicans Much easier time passing laws and appointing government officials

What Are Impacts Of Divided Government? Passing laws is more difficult President could veto bills from Congress Congress could not support the President’s proposed legislation Confirming appointments is more difficult (Senate is opposite party) Supreme Court justices Ambassadors, Cabinet members, etc.
