Standards for the 21st Century Learner When we talk about standards the words we use describe our expectations for learning … what I don’t se… 20 bks/stu, 3000 sq ft… etc.

2007: Standards for the 21st-Century Learner 1988: Information Power: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs 1998: Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning 2007: Standards for the 21st-Century Learner L4L uses a three-pronged approach to assist schools to reconsider learning standards and help position personnel and programs to create flexible learning environments and provide appropriate resources, and instructional strategies that are research and evidence-based. Standards for the 21st Century Learner, Standards in Action and Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs, provide the framework that enables schools to assess where they are and where they need to go to best serve the needs of their students and ensure that they learn how to learn in order to make formal education relevant as they acquire skills and competencies that serve them for a lifetime. 3

Standards for the 21st Century Learner Released in October 2007 - An “evolution” of the nine Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning (ch. 2 of Information Power) Connections to ISTE-NETS and Partnership for 21st Century ICT Skills

Elevator Speech Prompt Audience: Teacher Mrs. Robin, a 5th grade teacher, is bringing her class in to do research on the states. Each student has been assigned a different state to research. She has provided a worksheet for each student to fill in basic facts about the state. This is an assignment she has used for many years. She assigns the students states in alphabetical order: Alabama, Arkansas, etc. Sadly, no one has studied Wyoming in a number of years.
