Tour of Blackboard http://www.csub.edu/els/bb9/ You must “SELF-ENROLL” to our course Bb. Try “How to Enroll in a Blackboard Course” on the CSUB Blackboard website Taking a quiz and an exam Submitting a group case assignment

Course Objectives To reinforce oral presentation skills. To understand the role of corporations in American life. To be aware of the responsibilities of business to the broader society. To gain an increased understanding of environmental issues associated with the business. To view corporations from the stakeholder perspective. To understand the impacts of information technology on business and how business can utilize it to become more efficient and effective. To reinforce oral presentation skills. New GE policy for the course 8

Try to be very flexible because… First Time teaching in semester All the course materials are redone! But may still need some adjustments during the semester. First Time teaching under new GE policy Must emphasize Oral Presentation First Time teaching Hybrid! Flipped Classroom style Bottom Line: it is a GE course!

Class Format: Hybrid In-class: Online: Lecture of key topics End of text case discussion as a group assignment Submit thru Blackboard (submission link of each case) More than welcome to laptop, tablet PC, etc. Individual Presentation! – starting from week 11 Technology ethics report (see instruction on the website) Online: Readings (chapters & cases), review case company website, quiz, and the 3rd exam

In-class Lecture of key topics (chapter, case, etc.) 20 to 30 minutes End of text case discussion as a group assignment Why in-class discussion? Discussion of the case is one of the focal points Not much sufficient time under semester system Based on the feedback from the fall semester BPA-wide, Overall performance as well as grade went down

Online Reading assignments Online quiz (nine quizzes) Online 3rd exam Next in-class readings (chapter & case), review case company website, etc. Online quiz (nine quizzes) Online 3rd exam 1st and 2nd exams are in-class exams (thru BB) Key information will be given The 3rd exam is online exam thru BB Key information will NOT be given but can try twice!

Evaluation and Grading Points scales are subject to change Quiz (nine quizzes, each 3 points) 27 points Case Assignment 45-50 points Presentation 25 points Exam 1 25 points Exam 2 25 points Exam 3 25 points ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total 172-177 points

Online Quiz Total 9 quizzes and each one is 3 points Quiz 1 (ch 1 & 2), Quiz 2 (ch 3 & 4)…….. 40 true/false type questions. It is either "PASS" or "FAIL." In order to pass the quiz, your score percentage must be AT LEAST 80% (32 out 40, 2.4 points). If you pass the quiz, you can keep your passing score. If fail, you earn zero points.  Try each quiz two times and each attempt must be completed in two hours.  After two hours, your quiz will be saved and submitted automatically by the system (BB) when time expires.

End of Text Case (in-class) Starting from week 2….. One of the “End of Text Cases” See the list on the class website If possible, three members in each group Answer case questions and then submit thru BB (not everyone…..but only one of members) Peer evaluation Case grade can be adjusted based on the evaluation Bottom line: no participation  no credit

Presentation Technology Ethics Report Required activity by the GE policy From week 13 (April 17) to 16 (May 8) Starting right after Spring Break! Nine students per day (max 8 minutes per student) Focus on “Time Management” & “Presentation Professionalism” Detail instruction and a list of examples on the course website

Ethics in Practice Case As an individual assignment (according to our course syllabus) No plan for assigning this semester Since it is first time…. However, possibly as an extra assignment if it is extremely necessary for everyone…. So, almost no chance…

Submission Both group and individual assignments must be submitted through our course Blackboard submission link. Otherwise, it will not be accepted. Only one individual case assignment Before submitting an assignment, you MUST CLOSE the Microsoft office application (i.e., Word) COMPLETELY.

Submission Otherwise, ONLY title of you file will be processed and accepted without including actual contents of your file. And if you need to submit more than one files, you must submit all files together at once. That is, you must "UPLOAD" all the files together at once.

Course Guideline Class Attendance Is required and more than two absences will significantly negatively impact your final grade. Notify me your absence by email one day before. If you miss a class because of a documentable illness or other reasonable cause, I will provide help. Otherwise, no help will be provided. The attendance will be checked (actually, by your group) 20

Course Guideline Email Policy Every CSUB student has a CSUB issued email address (just like mine!) ONLY official email for our course is CSUB Email. If you email me using your private email, I will not reply. 21

Course Guideline Class Announcement All the class announcement will be posted thru the class announcement page on the class website and sent by email as well if necessary. e.g., change or cancellation of class or office hours Make sure to check the class announcement page and email periodically 22

Course Guideline No interference Surfing the Internet without permission Typing (email, paper…) and cell phone texting Cell Phone: change to “Air Plane” mode Private talking...... Bottom line…do not distract others Up to 30 % of your total score can be deducted depending on the level of interference.

Course Guideline Late Policy All Students must be on time to the class. If you late more than 20 minutes without any notification (at least 24hours), then it will be considered as “ABSENCE.” Also, if you leave early without any notification.. If you violet this policy, minimum 10% penalty (based on total score) will be applied.

Course Guideline CSUB policy “Faculty have a fundamental responsibility to maintain the integrity of the learning environment. When confronted by unreasonable disruption in the classroom, faculty are expected to initiate actions to correct such conditions. Such actions may result in disciplinary action ranging from removal from the classroom to formal disciplinary sanctions, including probation, suspension, or expulsion.”

Course Guideline Peer Group Evaluation is a part of the grading scheme. Your evaluation is 100% confidential Plan to conduct two times To prevent free riding in the group, the contribution of each member will be assessed. Each member must submit a peer group evaluation. No one will be allowed to see your evaluation. Your case grade will be adjusted based on the peer evaluation.

Course Guideline Microsoft Office is the ONLY official software for our university. Thus, no other SW tools will be allowed. Any work submitted not using Microsoft Office will not be accepted. You can download the most current MS Office thru CSUB Office 365. http://www.csub.edu/office365/

Course Guideline Late work Will not be accepted! Submission link will disappear after each due date Failure to submit an assignment by the deadline will result in a grade of 0. A written excuses from the appropriate person such as a medical doctor is the only acceptable form of excuse.

Course Guideline Office hours Please DO NOT try to use office hours to make up for a missed class. I do not repeat…. Honor code Classroom conduct Everyone is equal.

Who are you? Introduce yourself… Name From where? Standing (i.e., senior, junior…) Transfer student International student Major

Next Class (Jan 30th) Read chapters 1 and 2 Read case: The Body Shop (A) Also review case question (at the end) Review The Body Shop website First group meeting and the case discussion Group will be formed based on alphabetical order of your last name And posted thru the class website

Last Words…. Always welcome your feedback… Questions??
