Universal Declaration of Human Rights

What is it? Purpose? “To work together to help poor people live better lives, to conquer hunger, disease and illiteracy, and to encourage respect for each other’s rights and freedoms” Work with a neighbor, read the Preamble, and then paraphrase the Preamble in your own words.

What does it declare? Before you examine the 30 articles of the UDHR, create a ranking system for the individual articles. Define each level. 1 being “best” and 3 being “worst.” Designate a symbol to mark any rights that have been violated in Syria. Amnesty International Video

After the movie Identify what you consider to be the top three rights for you personally. Be prepared to share a brief explanation of your reasoning. In Syria, which of the rights identified in the UDHR are being violated? How so?

Finally… Does this information have any impact on what you think should be done in Syria and/or how to decide when countries should get involved in events taking place in other countries?
