Smart Classroom Orientation: KHS-199 Lecture Hall Campus Information Technology Training California State University Fullerton

Room Equipment Classroom Technology Control Panel Windows 7 Computer Laptop and Tablet Connection Podium Mic and Wireless Mics Blu-Ray / DVD Player Document Camera

Classroom Technology Control Panel On the left side of the podium you will see the classroom technology control panel. When you are ready to begin using the classroom technology, just press the ‘Start’ button on the control panel screen. If the system is already on, we recommend shutting it down and then restarting it.

Classroom Technology Control Panel You will use the Control Panel to control the classroom lighting, audio levels and select the device you wish to display through the classroom projector – such as your laptop, tablet, classroom computer or Blu- Ray/DVD player When you press start on the control panel the system will take about 45 seconds to be ready

Classroom Technology Cables At the top of the podium, you will see a small cubby hole with the classroom connection cables Here you will have cables to connect your laptop or tablet, an Ethernet internet connection cable, and a power outlet for your device.

Classroom Technology Cables There is a VGA style cable and an HDMI cable to connect to your laptop or tablet. You will need the appropriate adapter to connect your tablet and in some cases you will need an adapter for your laptop. If you do not know what kind of adapter you need, please bring your laptop or tablet to the Academic Technology Center – PLS237 and the staff will tell you what adapter you need to connect. These adapters are available for sale in Titan Shops.

Classroom Technology Control Panel Once the systems is on the first thing you will do is select the device you wish to use. You will see the input choices on the control panel screen If you are using your laptop or iPad, plug in the device prior to selecting this as the input option

Laptops and Tablets You can connect either your laptop or a tablet such as an iPad to the classroom projector from the podium. This is a two step process Connect your laptop or tablet to the projector using the cables in the podium Set your laptop or tablet as the input device from the control panel. This is done by selecting “Laptop” from the control panel. There are two choices on the screen – VGA and HDMI – select the one you pluged your device into After a brief pause you should see your laptop or tablet screen on the classroom screen.

Windows 7 Classroom Computer The classroom has a computer running Windows 7 available for use. Classroom computer has Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader installed A list of all software available on the computer is available here: http://www.fullerton.edu/IT/services/AVTechSupport.asp You can play DVDs from the classroom computer but not Blu-Ray discs Classroom audio system will automatically play the audio from the computer. Volume can be adjusted from the control panel by selecting “Program Audio”

Windows 7 Classroom Computer To use the classroom computer you will select the computer option from the control panel. After a brief pause you will see the computer projecting onto the screen. You will log into the classroom computer using your regular campus username and password.

Blu-Ray / DVD player The classroom also has a Blu-Ray / DVD player You can play DVDs from either the classroom computer or your laptop or use the DVD player. They will play the same in either option If you wish to play a Blu-Ray disc, you will need to use the classroom Blu-Ray Player – not the classroom computer. If your laptop supports playing Blu-Ray discs you can play the disc from your laptop. Selecting “DVD” from the control panel will allow you to use the Blu-Ray / DVD player You can control the volume for the Blu-Ray / DVD player from the control panel audio settings. Adjusting the “Program Audio” will set the volume.

Document Camera The classroom is equipped with a document camera for displaying physical documents through the classroom projector. The control panel has an option for selecting the Document Camera You will see the controls on the document camera that allow you to zoom in and out and control the focus of the camera.

Classroom Lighting Controls You can control the classroom lighting from either the control panel on the podium or from the regular lighting controls on the wall to the right of the podium. The control panel has several preset options for you to choose from to set the lighting level in the classroom.

Classroom Audio Control There are two audio settings for the classroom – one for the wireless microphone and another for the computer. The audio for the classroom computer or your laptop / tablet is label “Program Audio” You can adjust the volume for either audio as well as mute the audio from the control panel. If you wish to check out a wireless microphone for the classroom, please go to the Academic Technology Center – PLS 237
