Theme: This term, our theme is called ‘On Safari- Meerkat Mission’ . Year 2 at Lakeside

Year 2 at Lakeside Writing: The children will be writing in a range of fiction and non-fiction genres (e.g. poetry, story and information writing) We will be focusing on writing more complex and expanded sentences. Grammar and punctuation will be taught and reinforced throughout the week. Please support your child with writing tasks set for homework. Insist on high standards of presentation and later joined up writing. Year 2 at Lakeside

Year 2 at Lakeside Reading: At school an element of reading is built into every English lesson Your child will be heard read in groups. We will be looking at fiction and non-fiction texts in more detail and developing comprehension skills. Please support your child by ensuring that your child is heard read as often as possible . Make time for ‘book talk’ Discuss characters and plot. Look for evidence in books to support ideas and viewpoints. Year 2 at Lakeside

Year 2 at Lakeside Maths: We will continue to build upon skills in: Place value Number operations Shape and measures Mental maths strategies will be taught and reinforced throughout the week. Please help your child by supporting them with homework tasks and by helping them to learn their 2s,5s and 10 times tables. Year 2 at Lakeside

Year 2 at Lakeside Spellings: Spelling patterns and strategies will be taught through Letters and Sounds lessons. There will be ongoing assessment of spellings. This will include tricky words and high frequency words. Please help your child by supporting your child with homework spelling tasks. Year 2 at Lakeside

Year 2 at Lakeside Games and P.E Tuesdays: Outdoor P.E. all classes Wednesday: Indoor PE for class 7 &8 Friday: Indoor PE (Class 9) P.E kits should be in school at all times . Every half term check that your children’s PE/pumps fit. Remember names should be in all PE kit clothing. Year 2 at Lakeside

Visits/Trips: Trips will be confirmed nearer the time and will be a way to enhance theme learning in the classroom. We will also have visitors in to talk about different aspects within our theme. Year 2 at Lakeside

Year 2 at Lakeside Homework: Spellings will be given out every week. We also expect children to be reading regularly. Homework will usually comprise of: Maths , Literacy and theme related and will be in a grid format like in Y1. 2 key dates for children to bring it in.
