Brief History South Africa was a colony of the British Empire. British entered South Africa in 1795 Received Limited Self-Rule in 1910. Became independent country within the British Commonwealth in 1931.

Political Rights Political Rights restricted to a region Blacks COULD NOT live in White areas - the majority black population would live here. Homelands left to govern themselves You were a citizen of a homeland, not So. Africa
Pass Act Laws required non-whites to carry documents authorizing their presence in restricted areas. Reason: To limit contact between the races denied non-white participation in national government.
