Introduction to Works Cited Pay attention! Sophomore English PPT by Guidorizzi

Works Cited What is a works cited? What is it used for? List of sources Appears at end of a writing (essay, book, etc.) Last page Separate page What is it used for? Documentation of sources that are used in writing What is put in a works cited? Any sources that are used in the writing Cannot include sources that do not appear in writing

Why Works Cited All sources are fully listed at the back of the paper Convenient for teachers and researchers Gets rid of repetitive information: Each source listed only once at the back of the paper Instead of every time used in the paper When using a quote OR paraphrase in your paper Only need a brief reference to Works Cited entry All information for that source can then be found on the Works Cited page.

Why do we need a Works Cited? Shows where facts and quotes were found Teachers can see and check that you did research Plagiarism IS a big deal If you don’t show sources you are “cheating” Mountain Pointe: you will receive a “0” on your project If caught a 2nd time you will be dropped from the class College: Dropped from class Possibly expelled from school
