The Senior Phase: What learners can expect All young people in Scotland have an entitlement to a senior phase of education which: provides specialisation, depth and rigour prepares them well for achieving qualifications to the highest level of which they are capable continues to develop skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work continues to provide a range of activities which develop the four capacities supports them to achieve a positive and sustained destination.

Senior Phase S4 English and maths – 4 periods each 4 other subjects of choice – 5 periods each 6 subjects to presentation at National 4 or 5 2 periods of core PE Free choice Most will choose 4 from 6 already studying

Senior Phase S4 SQA Assessments Course work – National 5 An assignment, research project, write-up/folio of work, speaking test to be completed in school and submitted to SQA for marking and/or verification.
Monitoring and Tracking Progress Tracking & Monitoring Reports will be produced 3 times per session. Students will be placed at the appropriate level for SQA presentation on these reports. Working Grades and Target Grades will reflect the level of presentation. Timely and appropriate interventions by staff, at all levels, intend to help all young people reach their full potential. Staff, at all levels will intervene promptly and effectively if the progress of individuals is not maintained.
