The Role of Physiotherapy What most people think we do!
What we actually do
Physiotherapy after Colorectal surgery Early mobilisation. Sitting up and out of bed. Deep breathing and supported cough. Stair assessment. Provision of equipment if needed. Referral for support if required. Benefits= Improved circulation – reduced risk of DVT, improved wound healing. Reduced risk of chest infection. Movement and gravity very important for normal gut function. Independence and reduced stay in hospital.
Pelvic floor exercises We all have a pelvic floor, and it is important to keep it healthy!! Vital following colorectal surgery with stoma, especially if likely to be reversed.
