What can be Learned with Evidence from Fossils?

Scientists have known for a long time that life on Earth began in water. After over 3 billion years, animals (amphibians) were moving from water to land.

But finding the fossil evidence for that transition was difficult.

The scientists who discovered… …Tiktaalik http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/canadian-museum-of-nature-unveils-ancient-limbed-fish-fossil-1.3124254 …Tiktaalik

Glyptolepis From fins….

Panderichthys … to one bone, two bones, two blobs…

Tiktaalik … to one bone, two bones, sort of blobs and digits…

And others … with one bone, two bones, lots of blobs and digits.

Look familiar? Do you see a pattern here? This approach in finding evidence for the common ancestry between living organisms is referred to a comparative anatomy.

Is there evidence in the diagrams to indicate these organism have a common ancestor? Use comparative anatomy to answer this question. Then match the diagram letter to the type of animal. SPuD: B A D C Animal word bank: bird dog human whale
