Alliances Causes of WWI Alliances divided Europe into competing camps Provide an example of an alliance. Explain how it ultimately divided Europe, not unite it. Example: Russia and Serbia were allies France and Russia were allies Germany and Austria-Hungry were allies Causes of WWI Alliances

Nationalism Causes of WWI Feelings of nationalism, or patriotism, made people feel much pride for their countries Provide an example of nationalistic feelings that prompted war in Europe. Example: The Black Hand promoted nationalistic feelings Colonies wanted their independence Causes of WWI Nationalism

Imperialism Causes of WWI Domination of weaker countries by stronger countries resulted in resentment (bad feelings) Provide an example of how imperialism caused WWI. Colonies wanted to overthrow their oppressors Strong countries fought each other for colonies Causes of WWI Imperialism
