Presentation transcript:

Warm-up 10/27/16 How does latitude influence temperature? How does position on continent influence rain fall? How does mountains influence climate? How are the Himalayas mountains formed? How do you know? Why are the Himalayan Mountains famous? What countries are the Himalayan Mountains found in?

MOUNTAINS

What is a Mountain? A large mass of rock or landform that rises a great distance above its base (about 300 meters)

Where do mountains form? Generally, along convergent plate boundaries: (Collision)

How do mountains form? Mountains form from rocks that have been permanently deformed under stress.

Rain Shadow Effect An area having relatively little precipitation due to the effect of a topographic barrier, especially a mountain range, that causes the prevailing winds to lose their moisture on the windward side, causing the leeward side to be dry.

Activities- Pick one of the following- Using what you have on hand make a 3d demo of the rain shadow effect and share with the class Act out using group members the rain shadow effect for the class Or make a comic over the rain shadow effect and share with the class

Closure- 10/27/16 Would you ever climb Mt. Everest? Why or why not? If you would not climb Mt. Everest what is something you would do instant?
