April 12, 1945: President Franklin D April 12, 1945: President Franklin D. Roosevelt dies of a heart attack, shortly before he was to have opened the United Nations Conference in San Francisco. May 19, 1945: Delegates from all over the world arrive in San Francisco, and immediately go to Muir Woods’ Cathedral Grove & hold a commemorative ceremony in tribute to his memory, where a dedication plaque was placed in his honor. “Chief Architect of the United Nations, and Apostle of Lasting Peace for All Mankind."

Original Charter of the United Nations signed in June of 1945 in the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center 401 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA U.S.A.
