‘Respect – Integrity – Inclusiveness - Commitment’ ‘Partnership’ and ‘Accountability’ Self introduction – Welcome the first Third Sector Forum here in [locality], we hope these events will become your opportunity to network and engage with other Third Sector organisations and partners, enable you to bring your experience, views and ideas on how the sector can contribute to our community planning partners and hopefully drive forward a positive outlook for this sector by highlighting the impact it has on the local and wider communities of South Lanarkshire. We believe this is an exciting step in sector engagement, and we would encourage you to get involved and contribute to what is your forum.

The principles and values of the Third Sector Forum. The agenda for today How did we get here? The principles and values of the Third Sector Forum. Open discussion on the TSF.  What do you want to see within your TSF?  What should future events look like? Break and Networking. Locality and South Lanarkshire Dimension. Activities session based around: Health and Social Care Integration, the challenges, and, Sector links to Health and Wellbeing Outcomes. I’m planning that today is not solely about me talking to you. The Third Sector Forum is your platform, VASLan will facilitate and administer the events; but this is about you, the wider Third Sector. Cover agenda items as shown. The locality forum should be directing the content of these events.

How did we get here? The transition from centrally based ‘Thematic Networks’ to a locality based Third Sector Forum Our sector is operating within a changing environment: - Changes in Services for Children. - Health and Social Care Integration. - Change in language across the South Lanarkshire partnership. How did we get here? The emerging challenges for the Third Sector means that our operating environment is changing, The current economic environment is playing its part in shaping the change process across the Third Sector. Within children’s services, the RCS programme may well change the face of Children’s services, the impact of the child’s plan with targeted interventions seeing Third Sector organisation becoming a partner to the child’s plan. Health and Social Care, evidencing how our services support the National Health and Wellbeing outcomes. The change in language, improvement methodology, implementation science, co-production, preventative spend, impact assessments. More importantly the increasing references by strategic partners about the need to work with the Third Sector.

Discussions with representatives from the sector. The transition from centrally based ‘Thematic Networks’ to a locality based Third Sector Forum Survey of members. Discussions with representatives from the sector. VASLan procuring the learning points from the survey and discussions. Clear support for a locality based Third Sector Forum (TSF). Ensuring a robust information platform to deliver messages between the TSF, the CPP and partners. Recognise and utilise the wider skills and resources available within the South Lanarkshire Third Sector. During 2105 we recognised that as these elements moved forward, the Third Sector could and should be playing an integral part of the transformational changes that are underway, and as part of VASLan’s transition, we; Surveyed Thematic network members, Held discussions with a range of organisations, and Established learning points to inform how we as a TSI could improve. We conducted two values sessions, these results of which you can see on the banners and will be on the communications you’ll receive. ‘Respect – Integrity – Inclusiveness - Commitment’ Building on a foundation of ‘Partnership and Accountability’ Not VASLan’s words, these stemmed from the sectors contribution.

What are we aiming to do? Be positive, be forward thinking, highlight our successes. Strengthen the relationship between Public Sector bodies and the Third Sector. Clearly identify the role and highlight the added value that the Third Sector has to offer, demonstrating how the Third Sector contributes to progress on local and national priorities and outcomes. The broadening of partnership-working between the Public and Third Sector to develop service models that support and improve locality services and responses to the increased demand and demographic growth. Evidence how the Third Sector contributes toward the priorities set by Community Planning Partners. Enable the Third Sector to contribute on the appropriateness of funders’ oversight and evaluation of Third Sector contribution. ‘Working together to improve health and wellbeing in the community - with the community’ - The vision of the South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership - All sounds very nice, the key to this is remaining positive about the impact our sector makes on the lives of the people living in your communities. The sector works across a wide ranging portfolio of services; Working with vulnerable people, the homeless, victims/survivors of domestic violence. Substance misuse. Supporting older people. Supporting people with mental ill health. Supporting low income families. Taking steps to improve the local environment. Providing services for young people. Crime prevention work. Providing a space for people to come together. Providing services for the community, lunch clubs, exercise classes, crèches, provision of information, advice and guidance. The list goes on, its an impressive CV, one we should be highlighting.

Third Sector Forum Principles.   Having a collaborative approach with communities and partners to solve problems Delivering user-focused services that meet the needs of individuals, communities and the locality by achieving appropriate outcomes. To consider medium to long term sustainability through community engagement. This is an exciting step for VASLan and the wider sector. It represents;

Third Sector Forum Values   Respect:              Recognising and valuing individual and organisational differences, being non-judgemental and listening to the opinion of others.   Integrity:             To uphold honesty, trust, truthfulness and sincerity, while remaining fair and ethical. Inclusiveness:    Accept the diversity of the sector and ensure equality of opportunity. Commitment:    As individuals and as a sector body be committed to contributing positively toward building a resilient Third Sector and strengthening the relationship between the Public and the Third Sector. These values are built on the foundation of ‘Partnership’ and ‘Accountability’ Accountability:  We accept accountability both as a sector body and as individuals, we confidently and transparently assess our performance and manage our resources responsibly in pursuit of a values, impact and results-driven culture. Partnership:       The success of the TSF is largely dependent upon the partnerships we forge, the intellectual capital and passion of the members are the key drivers in achieving this partnership. These values are a result of the two sessions held back in August last year. COVEY befriending worked with VASLan to facilitate these. The words were agreed, with the strap lines added later by drawing on many of the comments made during the sessions.

What do you want to see within your TSF? and Discussion What do you want to see within your TSF? and  What should future events look like? So now it’s over to you, what do you want the Third Sector Forum to look like. Some initial thoughts to get you started. Links with locality health improvement staff, NHS Lanarkshire are happy to have health improvement staff come along to talk about your locality, how they see it, what happening from a health perspective. ADP and their links with social work and justice, they want to engage with the sector. Possibly on two levels, one providing an overview of substance misuse issues, and two having a issue specific working group that can feed into the main steering group. Both good opportunities to have an input.

Our communities want to be active participants in shaping the future configuration of services.
