Rocket Aerodynamics By: Blayze Tipton
Scientific Question How will the different fins change how each rocket flies?
Background I chose this topic because I like rockets and aerodynamics. Also, I went to space camp and found more of an interest in space and NASA. I also find an interest in space exploration which relates to rockets.
Hypothesis Sky Duster Fat Jax Nitro If I launch this If I launch this If I launch rocket it will go rocket it will go this rocket it will 400 FT. 425 FT. go 415 FT.
Hypothesis #2 Sky Duster Fat Jax Nitro I think this will I think this will I think this one will go the lowest because go highest because go second highest the fins will catch the fins can cut because the fins air on the edge of it. through the air might catch some air on the sides.
Variables Independent Dependant Constant Design of rocket Height of each rockets Engine type, time, (such as weight/length flights. and launch set. and width.
Procedures Set up launch site/ launch set Launch rocket with auto-start on launch controller Record launch with video camera Record which one flies highest Make graph Do same for two more rockets
Data Names Fat Jax Nitro Height 400 FT 425 FT 415 FT 603 FT 297 FT Sky Duster Fat Jax Nitro Estimate Hight 400 FT 425 FT 415 FT Height 603 FT 297 FT 475 FT Fin Design
Conclusion I used three different rockets with three different types of fins to see which one reaches the maximum height. I set up a launch site, launched the rockets, recorded each rockets flight with camera, used an Altitrack(altitude finder) to measure the height. Finally, I made a graph the height reached by each rocket. The first rocket(Sky Duster) went the highest.(603 FT)
