Sumerian Religion Religion was very important part of daily life including growing crops and settling disputes by praying to gods and goddesses (polytheistic) Sumerians built temples and religious towers called ziggurats which the king maintained and were made of mud bricks located near temples Believed Gods lived in ziggurats and added long staircase so gods could climb down Statues also used to express beliefs and were detailed and lifelike including those praying to the gods Many ceremonies for religion occurred with music and human sacrifice, or killing of a person as an offering to god

Example of Introduction Paragraph Around 3500 B.C.E, there was a civilization located in southern Mesopotamia known as Sumer. By settling in the Fertile Crescent, the city-states of Sumer advanced over time into one of the first great civilizations. Historians question whether Sumer was a civilization but I believe Sumer was a civilization because it created a stable food supply, formed a system of government, and created a social structure.
