Discussing likes and dislikes Le verbe + l’infinitif Discussing likes and dislikes Les normes: Communication 1.2: Comparisons 4.1:

Les questions essentielles What is the « infinitif » form of the verb and how can you tell when a verb is in that form? What happens when there is a subject followed by 2 verbs in a sentence?

The infinitive The infinitive is the form of the verb before it is conjugated You can tell a verb is in the infinitive because it still has the –ER on the end

En bref: When there are two verbs in a sentence the first one is conjugated and the second one stays in the « Infinitif » (-ER form).

Verbe + infinitif In French when the verbs aimer, adorer, and détester are followed by another verb, the second verb is in the infinitive form. Il aime rigoler. J’adore écouter la radio. On déteste travailler. 2. In a negative sentence, the ne… pas goes around the first verb. Vous n’aimez pas travailler?

Verbe + infinitif Complete with an appropriate verb. 1. Je déteste __________ les examens. Answer: passer 2. On aime __________ au téléphone après les cours. Answer: parler 3. Tu n’aimes pas __________ dans un magasin? Answer: travailler
