Early bird savings for Spring and Summer Camp ends February 29th! Feb. 19th -Feb.23rd REMINDERS: Community Central Password: THINKBIG1718 Auction Items Needed — The annual Gala is March 17, and we need a variety of donations for the silent and live auctions. This week in 2nd Grade… Second grade was busy this week!! In math, we explored arrays, had a math check in and began our new math unit. We practiced finding differences between 2-digit numbers and multiples of 10 by playing a game called Hit the Target and were introduced to solving number stories with three addends. During Reading Workshop, the students created Venn Diagrams to record similarities and differences when comparing two books on the same topic. In Writing Workshop, we continued to work on editing our non-fiction writing to prepare for publication. In social studies, the students started wrapping up the writing portion of their China reports and also added the Great Wall to our China relief maps using small pebbles. During centers, we created Chinese lanterns, followed step-by-step instructions to draw a pagoda, played another round of Chinese Checkers, and discovered some very interesting information by reading Weird But True books on the I-pads. We ended the week with a great Tangram STEM project and our famous Friday dance party! Important Dates Early bird savings for Spring and Summer Camp ends February 29th! March 1st we will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America – Simple dress is optional i.e. braids, hat, t-shirt Next week in 2nd Grade… We will continue working on our China research reports and create the covers for presentation. In math, we will solve addition problems with three or more addends, explore measuring using yards, and choose appropriate tools to estimate and measure lengths. In Reading Workshop, we will focus on how readers don’t just retell the topic they are reading about, but use words they have learned from their topic and all of the information they have gathered to retell.
