2016 Canadian pulse and specialty crop acres

Chick Peas (Garbs) 2016 Acres up 25% Export surged last 6 months Limited dedicated processing Primarily grower speculation on Kabuli types Small caliber 5-6mm acres increasing 170,000 acres x 16cwt yield = 2,720,000cwt carry out 60,000cwt total supply 2,780,000cwt

Dry bean contracting and planting summary Pinto / Black bids first to move Price support in time to increase acres slightly White bean bids last to improve – too late vs. Soy, Canola, Lentil, Peas, etc.. Plantings sharply lower on Navy and small reduction on GNB Planting - Alberta early / Manitoba on time / Ontario very dry some delays Acreage stagnant last decade approx. 300k / yr.
