Figure 1 A Summary of Some of the Signaling Pathways by which Neuronal Activity Influences Dendritic Development The effects of neuronal activity on dendritic development are mediated by calcium influx via voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) and NMDA receptors, as well as release from internal stores. Local calcium signals act via Rho family proteins to regulate dendritic branch dynamics and stability, while global calcium signals recruit transcriptional mechanisms to regulate dendritic growth.
