Do first: Answer the two questions on your handout

Human trafficking The sale and transport of human beings who are forced to work for others.

CFU: answer In your notes What is the difference between human trafficking and prostitution?

Key players Victims, traffickers, and customers, each of whom correspond with source, transit, and destination countries.

CFU Why would it be beneficial to traffickers if a transit country has weak borders and/or a corrupt government?

CFU: Turn and Talk Which of these countries (source, transit, or destination) would you expect to be the most developed and why?

Human trafficking is caused by… The supply of people vulnerable to exploitation and the demand for cheap labor, commercial sex, and profit.

Guided practice (5 min) Working with your table, brainstorm as many specific causes of human trafficking as you can. You must have at least 3 reasons for the supply and 3 reasons for the demand. Then determine what you think is the reason with the largest impact and be ready to share!
