The economic impact of tourism – Complete last lesson! – 20 mins! Do as much as you can and then discuss the answers as a class! Turn to Geog3 p102 – 103. ALL to QUESTION 7 THEN: ANSWER QUESTION 8

Changes through Tourism - Benidorm Key Question(s): What changes does tourism bring to a region /country? L/O: To explain and evaluate the variety of changes tourism brings. Where is Benidorm? Use an atlas – explain I detail! (country, country, continent) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TRvOwSt48s&feature=related

Starter: From memory and previous lesson write the definitions for primary, secondary and tertiary jobs.

Beautiful Benidorm? Geog.3 p108. As a class! Read about the rise of Benidorm from a small fishing village to one of Europe’s largest busiest resorts. How has it changed? Give data to back up your answer! How has it changed in the last 25 years?

Task 1: The stage model of tourism Look at the graph. The rise and fall of tourism in a place can be shown on a graph; Growth in tourism is plotted against time; Where is Benidorm on the graph at present? Why? What has caused this to happen? How could this be improved?

Task 2: How can we make Benidorm sustainable? Key words: Sustainable: To be able to do or use something over and over again without it running out! Sustainable tourism: (What do you think this is?) Add all the problems you can find on pages 108-109 Suggest things that the Spanish government could do to help! What is the problem? What can we do? e.g. Tourists are using too much water (give examples) Extra: 1) Who is to blame for the decline of Benidorm? Tourists? Government? Tour operators? Someone else? 2) Why might the Spanish government not want to make these changes you have suggested?
